Rain! We’ve had so much rain lately. I’m not sure what it’s been like where you live, but here in Kentucky the saying “April Showers bring May Flowers” has rung true — at least the first part.
It seems like every other day it rains — or pours! — and we have weekly thunderstorms or at least a lightning show, like last night.
Normally I really, really, REALLY enjoy a day filled with rain every once in awhile. It’s an excuse to cozy up and read a book, I usually start new books on rainy days for some reason. Or a rainy day is an invitation to go and play in the rain! Last week while I was out at the coffee shop writing last week’s newsletter, it was raining. Not a pour, but more than a mist — something in between those. I was the only one sitting outside under the covered patio. I don’t mind a little mist or sprinkle, or even sitting under an overhang in a storm (one of the reasons I like our home so much is that the roof protrudes out an extra 3-4 feet from the exterior brick walls — just enough room to sit out during a storm). Experiencing all seasons of the weather (I believe) is beneficial to us and our bodies.

The poem that I decided to share this week is from that morning sitting outside last week, under the covered patio, sitting just protected from the fall of the rain, but not the dance. The soft mist still found its way to touch my glasses and wet the pages of my book.
A simple and short poem where I explored the thought of a spring rain and the blessings soon to come from the fall.
A Green Spring
They say April showers
bring May flowers
but the flowers have bloomed
early you see,
will the flood of rain
only bring more green?
I’ll miss the purples and pinks,
but I am more excited
for the complete blanket of greens,
I think.
Some a little more blue,
others leaning yellow.
At the end of the day,
I’m just grateful they came to say hello.
The slow build we’ve had into Spring in Kentucky has been much enjoyed. A few days of misty rain to a few days in a high of 84 like yesterday. They all give us what we need, either rain for the buds and new life or sun for the warmth of our skin.
Until next time,
Madeline
Last week in Minnesota we had extremely warm temperatures but this week is very different.Tonight we’re expecting frost so our little rosebush is covered. My Mom enjoyed walking in the rain. As you said, there is purpose in our varied weather patterns. Look forward to hearing from you each week. Your thoughts invite us to have more depth in viewing God’s gifts.

Minnesota is just like your poem. You say things so well.
